Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Germany) / London (UK), 1 March 2011 – Q-Cells SE, one of the world’s largest photovoltaic companies, is entering the UK market and will shortly be opening a London office. The UK is one of the fastest growing solar markets in Europe at present, with Government forecasts predicting the UK annual PV market to grow from 5 MWp installed in 2009 to 140 MWp in 2012. This strategic step continues the successful expansion of Q-Cells’ global sales activities with country offices in Berlin, Rome, Paris, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Hangzhou and Bangalore.
Q-Cells will be presenting its product portfolio at the Ecobuild trade fair in London from 1st to 3rd March, 2011. Ecobuild is the world’s largest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment and the UK’s largest construction event of any kind. Over 50,000 visitors are expected to attend, with over 1,300 suppliers showcasing products.
Commenting on Q-Cells entering the UK market, Hans-Gerd Füchtenkort, Executive Board Member, Marketing & Sales said: "We see the UK as a strategically important market and another step in expanding our global business. With a high degree of home ownership and promising feed-in-tariff legislation we are confident that the UK market offers great potential. The ‘Q’ in Q-Cells stands for quality - which is guaranteed for Q-Cells products, from the solar cells to solar modules to systems”.
Q-Cells also expects to shortly announce MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) approval for its most popular models - Q.SMART and Q.PRO. This endorsement - a pre-requisite for selling solar panels in the UK market - will enable customers to utilise Q-Cell's technology for reliable, lower cost, electricity generation.
Q.SMART solar modules offer the world’s best efficiencies - of up to 12.7% - for thin-film modules in mass production. Their outstanding design with a uniform black surface and matched anodized aluminium frame brings superior aesthetics to rooftop and building integrated solutions. Q.SMART panels exhibit good performance even when conditions are less than optimal, e.g. on cloudy days, or on rooftops that are not south-facing or partially shaded. This makes them ideally suited to the UK.
Q.PRO multicrystalline solar modules are based on highly efficient solar cells which Q-Cells produce in-house. They are particularly well suited for applications with limited space on private homes or commercial buildings: Excellent efficiencies and longevity create a perfect foundation for achieving high, reliable energy yields.
Since the start of production in 2001, Q-Cells has delivered solar cells with a total capacity of over 1,890MWp (1.9GWp). This means that our solar cells – the core of the solar installation – are used in a particularly diverse spectrum of applications and subjected to a long test period: this has allowed us to gain a wealth of experience. For the first time in 2010, Q-Cells produced more than 1 GWp (1,014 MWp) in solar cells and solar modules. Including sales in 2009, the total volume of all solar cells processed into modules has reached 2GWp.
When: Tuesday 01 - Thursday 03 March 2011
